Samsung Electronics, the world's third-largest cell phone vendor, start to market a handset, which can hoard more than 1,500 music files.
The model, SCH-B570, has an internal 8 gigabyte (GB) hard disk drive that the Seoul-based company claims can carry 1,600 MP3 files, 16 movies and 20,000 photos.
Korean customers can snap up the model at sales outlet of SK Telecom, the country's foremost wireless operator, at a price of slightly higher than 800,000 won ($835).
``This is a cell phone with the biggest internal storage capacity on the market and we project it will be a hit among the young generation here who want to enjoy listening to music or watching movies while on the go,'' a Samsung spokesman said.
Samsung took the wraps off the model, nicknamed ``Super Music Phone,'' early this March during the CeBit info-tech fair in Hanover, Germany.
As usual, Samsung debuts the phone in the domestic market first to check its commercial viability. The firm has yet to decide when to retail the handset in other countries.
``It is kind of a global trend to make cell phones with big storage space in tune with the installation of various multimedia features in mobile phones,'' Samsung president Lee Ki-tae said.
``Samsung is determined to lead the global market down the road with products equipped with cutting-edge functionality and top-notch design,'' the Samsung lifer said.
On top of the marked storage, the handset sports many notable applications and devices such as mobile television powered by terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB), integrated dual speakers, TV-out and a 2-megapixel camera.
Terrestrial DMB refers to Korea's locally developed platform for go-anywhere TV services, which the nation commercialized late last year for the first time in history.
Another conspicuous highlight of the SCH-B570 is its motion-cognitive capabilities, which Samsung began applying to its previous products midway through last year.
``For example, people can delay the wake-up call on the SCH-B570 by a pre-set time gap through just shaking the gadget. It is based on the motion-cognitive technology,'' the spokesman said. |
